Peru Trip 2010

July 22nd, 2010

This week I have the opportunity to lead two church groups here in Peru that are here to visit my cousin, Missionary Jeremy Hall.  One of the groups is New Life Baptist Church from Dalton, GA and the other is Calvary Baptist Church from Hiawassee, GA.

It is encouraging to see young people and older alike that are excited about missions.  I ask you to be praying that God does a special work in their heart.  I would love to see Him call several of them to the missions field this week.

Last night Pastor Rick Spence preached a great message at Gethsemane Baptist Church.  It was great being able to see Pastor Octavio Paredes and his wife Roxana again.

This morning Missionary Chris Gardner will be preaching to our group.  I am looking very forward to his challenge from God’s word.

ATLANTA.-

Brethren, it is a pleasure to be able to write to you, knowing of your love toward the work of God and your continued prayers for the ministry in Peru.

Hunter Baptist Church

This month we enjoyed our twenty first anniversary during the week of June 224-27.  It was our pleasure to have visiting pastors and missionaries come and hold classes during the evening and speak on the topic of missions at night.  We were able to cover the cost of their round trip travel expenses so that they could be with us on such a special date.  We had guests from Lambayque, Lima, Moquegua, Tacna, Mollendo and Chivay as well as from here in our city.  Some of them had lunch and dinner with our church members and I would like to thank them very much for their geneoristy.

Esmirna Baptist Church

New families continue to come to the church as a result of the brethren and the workers of the church.  We have began to disciple many of them such as the Moran family, who have been coming now for a few months.  We were able to baptize Julio, a very special young person from our church on June 27th.

Berea Baptist Church

Our church enjoyed its first outing as well as taking on its first missionary, Brother Luis Benites, who works in Lince, Lima.  We have discipleship groups on Saturdays and our best attendance was on March 29th with thirty six individuals.

Christian School

This month we held our School for Parents, during which we discussed the topic of how to talk to your children about sex.  On Friday the eighteenth we held a very emotional meeting with the parents and students.  On Saturday the nineteenth, we held a teacher training in which we discussed the importance of placing Biblical filters in the mind of the students.

Macedonia Baptist Bible College

We will finish this semester on Friday, July second and will resume classes on Tuesday the tenth of August.  We are expecting to have a group of new students.  I thank the pastors that each year help us with the lecture classes and student counseling.

Radio and Television

We continue with the radio program each Sunday.  I would like to share with you that a lady heard the program for five weeks in a row and on June 27th she visited the Berea Baptist Church along with her husband.  They only live two blocks from the church!  They attended services on Tuesday the 29th of June and began a discipleship on Saturday July the third.  We were able to talk for almost two hours!  They are showing a lot of interest and I ask for your prayers for them.  Their names are Emilio and Rocio.

Thursday from 5:00 until 5:30 we have begun a live program on a short wave radio that we have at the Bible college that has a local outreach.  We have been speaking  on the subject of families.  On Thursday the 24th we spent a program with three of our invited pastors.  It was very special.

I would like to ask for your prayers for the following:

-        Our trip to Moquegua, to preach in the Open Door Baptist Church with Pastor Wilber Hallasi from the 15th until the 18th.  We will be speaking on the subject of Families.

-        The retreat for Couples and Leaders in the Valle de Victor from the 22nd until the 24th of July.

-        The XII Youth Congress which will take place at the Bible college for the 27th until the 30th of July.

Thank you for your faithfulness and friendship. Blessings,

Miguel Murillo

Prayer Letter from Missionary Lorenzo Laura

News from the mission field Cobija Bolivia
Dear friends,
The Lord is doing great things here in Cobija Bolivia and we are happy to be able to serve Him.
The end of June we had our II Youth Conference called Dunami. The Lord really blessed with several young people receiving the Lord and many made decisions. We had a special guest to preach the conference that came from Arequipa Peru. John Zuñiga is the youth pastor at the Faith Baptist Church there.
Also we had visiting with us a young man named Joel from the city of Cuzco Peru. He was a great blessing to us during the conference. Pray for him because he seeking the Lords will, concerning where to serve. In all the conference was a great success and we want to give all the glory and honor to the Lord for what He did.
We would also like to ask you to pray about the need we have to expand our church building. This has been a great challenge for us but something that we desperately need because our auditorium no longer is large enough and the children have to have Sunday School class outside in very difficult conditions. We have started a campaign called helping hands and would appreciate any help that could be given.
Thank you very much for your prayers for my wife. We are praying that she doesn’t have to have two operations but that the problem can be fixed with only one. One would be for the infection and the other to repair her eardrum. Thank you to those who have helped and please pray for the remainder of the money that we need to finish her treatment.

May the Lord continue to richly bless you.

Coffey Family July Prayer Letter

The 2010 Our Generation Leadership Camp was a great success.  We had around sixty teens and college-age students participate in this year’s camp.  God moved in the hearts and lives of the young people and several have given their lives to work in full-time missions.  We have two from this group who have confirmed they will be attending our Training Center this coming fall.  Plan to be a part of this exciting camp next year.  We have changed it a little and will be hosting it the first week of June at Fort Bluff Camp in Dayton, TN.  You can go to www.bcwe.org to stay up to date on all the plans.

Please be praying for two upcoming Peru trips that I will be leading in the next two months.  I will be taking groups from Georgia and South Carolina.  I really would like to see some of these people commit their life to missions during these trips.  We are in need of laborers all over the world, and I pray we will seem some come from these trips.  If you or your church would be interested in going on one of my missions trips next year please let me know.

On a more personal note, by the time you read this letter, Amy and I will have had our third child.  Addison Ann Coffey is supposed to be here any day now.  By the way the midwife talked she should have already been here, but we are still waiting.  Please be praying for Amy as she will be recovering and be praying for me as I learn how to handle a little baby again.  Emilee is definitely excited about having a younger sister, and Luke says he doesn’t mind too much that she’s a girl.

The picture shown here is of Missionary Lorenzo Laura.  He is working in the city of Cobija, Bolivia with Vision Baptist Missions.  He and his family have been working faithfully in this city for several years.  Lorenzo pastored in Arequipa, Peru before going to Bolivia as missionaries.  God has used the Laura family in a great way in this remote city.  Currently, I am trying to raise an additional $150 a month support for him.  Pray the funds will come in quickly so we can further the work this family is doing for the Lord.

Here to serve,
Mark, Amy, Emilee, and Luke Coffey

Have we considered the country to Congo today.  242 people went into eternity.  I wonder if they had an opportunity to hear a clear presentation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  What are we doing to make sure the rest of them do?

With so many people in China dying and going to hell, do stories like this not effect us.  I wonder how devastated we would be if this happened in our home town.
