CHURCHES

I would like to greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, knowing that our King always pours His blessings out over each of us!

It has been a privilege to serve the Lord over the past month.  God gave me the opportunity to be in various churches sharing our burden for the ministry we will complete in North Africa.  I thank God for each opportunity He gives to me.

The time has arrived to figure the costs of our tickets from Peru to Morocco.  The tension grows just a little every day knowing the responsibility the situation brings but at the same time we are very happy to be able to serve in that part of the world.  I ask you to pray we would be able to obtain our tickets within the indicated date.

TRIPS

Last month I was invited to a missions conference in the Good News Baptist Church of Chiclayo.  Thanks be to God everything went very well!  I thank God for Pastor Sergio Serquen who gave me the opportunity to present the ministry and to preach during the conference.

I am preparing for a visit to Chile and Argentina.  I know that it will be a blessing as I continue to make the necessary contacts, visiting churches in those countries as well.

MY FAMILY

We are praying for the project God has given to us.  My wife is very happy and ready to serve the Lord and my little daughter is growing.  It is beautiful to see her grow up and I hope the Lord will give us wisdom to instruct her in His ways.

Serving out of Love

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Exodus 21:5  And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:

I pray that I serve my Master out of love today.  In the New Testament, commandments are giving for us to know how to live as Christians.  I never want to follow those list just because it is commanded for me to do them.  I want to follow those things because I have a love relationship with my Master, and I know He gave me those instructions to make me more like Him.  I want to give up my full liberty to Him because I love Him, not because it will gain me favor or give me a better lifestyle.  I want to give up the liberty He has given me to be His bond servant for ever, that I might be used by Him.

I Corinthians 9:19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

If we are to win the world for Christ, it will be by us falling more in love with Him.  I can only love the world based on how much I love Him.

II Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

August 20, 2010
Dear Friends and Family,

I want to thank you first of all for your prayers that you are making for your missionaries. We are very thankful. Thank you as well for your economic support. May God continue greatly blessing you. We love you.

This month we had our youth camp and it was a great blessing. There were 33 young people in attendance. God worked in a special way. There were pastors from different church, Pastor Mamadu, Pastor Talibala, Pastor Salif, Pastor Zacari, Pastor Daniel, and Pastor Konate with myself and my wife. WE are very happy because many young people gave their lives to Christ and decided to start serving in the work of God. Please keep praying for this country. There is so much need and so few laborers. Pray that God would touch hearts to decide to leave NOW for the mission field.

The second of September pastor Keith Shumaker and his wife Rebecca will be with us returning from the US after four months. They will only be here for a week and then will return again. We have three goals for Pastor Shumaker’s visit:
1. To being building an auditorium for a new work being pastored by Pastor Zacari.
2. To hold a missions conference.
3. To hold a wedding for Pastor Mamadu with Sister Antoinette.
We ask for your prayers to be able to accomplish these plans for our pastor.

We also ask for your prayers for the children’s Sunday School class. It has shrunk from an average of 55 kids to now 25 or 30 due to the month of Ramadan. Many of the children are Muslims and when Sunday morning comes around their parents won’t let them leave their homes until Ramadan is over since they are fasting all day. Pray that all the children will return to church after Ramadan. Every Thursday we have an outreach to orphans. The majority of the orphans are Muslims. We help them with food and Bible lessons. One young Muslim man named Albert recently accepted Christ and came to our summer camp. The other day he came to church so happy to tell us that his Muslim neighbors are learning the songs he was taught in church about the love of Christ. It was a blessing to hear this.

God is merciful ever day and strengthens us to do the work in Burkina Faso. It is a dream of ours that God would allow us to see each of you some day. We miss you greatly. Thank you for the privilege to write you one more time. May God bless you.

Prayer requests:
•    For Pastor Keith’s travel
•    For the needs of each pastor: Talibala, salif, Zacari, konate, Mamadu
•    For the missions conference coming up
•    For baptisms that are coming up
•    For the ministry to children and brother Gilbert who runs the orphan ministry
•    For God to continue helping and strengthening us to move forward in the work

My wife just sent me a picture of my gang.  I sure do miss them even though I do love being in Peru.  Pray for my wife as she holds down the fort.

Drifting from the Word

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

I am afraid too many times as Independent Baptist we use the Bible to say what we want to say instead of the Bible using us to say what It wants to say.

Here is a great article from Ministry127 that I recently read on the importance of Preaching the Bible:

Doctrinal Drift

Have You Strayed from Your Message?

Sometimes in preaching it seems that the Scripture text has as much to do with the sermon as the National Anthem has to do with a football game—it gets everything started, but you never hear from it again. We hurriedly read a few verses, hoping nobody gets too bored, and quickly get to some exciting story or anecdote that will win the crowd and move them to action. Unfortunately “Thus saith the Lord” gets pushed aside for the well-crafted homiletic masterpiece. In Titus 1:3, Paul writes, “But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour.” God makes it clear that preaching is to manifest or make known His Word. Paul doesn’t mince words as he exhorts Timothy, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine” (2 Timothy 4:2).

August 03, 2010

Dear brethern, it is a pleasure to be able to speak to you again, thanking God for your faithfullness and service to the Lord.  This month, God worked in many forms and through different people in our city.

SEMINARY

We finished our classes on Friday July 2,  2010 and we begin again this Tuesay, August 10th.  The young people had returned to their respective local churches and this semester we will have new students, Lord willing.  We held the XII Teen Congress from July 27th until the 30th with participants from different cities in our country as well as from Chile and Bolivia.  Each year the number continues to grow.  We finished the morning services with around three hundred and in the night with about 700 people.  It was a week of hard work but there were many decisions.

HUNTER

Last month we spoke about spiritual discplines.  We had two days of fasting and we finished the month with a retreat for couples and leaders at Vitor, along with brethren from Esmirna and Berea from the 22nd until the 24th of July.  We also preached a conference at the Open Door Baptist Church in Moquegua from the 15th to the 18th of July with Pastor Wilber Hallasi.  We were also involved in the anniversery of Vision Baptist Church with Pastor David Ramos on the 20th of July.

ESMIRNA

This month we talked about the importance of the local church and the responsibility of the brethern towards the church.  As in Hunter, the brethren also participated in the couple’s retreat as well as helping out at the youth conference with the nursery and supplies.  It is a great joy to see the brethren grow spiritually.

En el mes hablamos sobre la importancia de la iglesia local, y la responsabilidad de los hermanos hacia ella.

BEREA

Lamentably, during the last week, the father of the brother that allowed us the use of his house for our church meetings passed away, Brother Pasucal Garate.  The late brother and his wife attended Hunter until his health impeded his ability to attend services frequently.  Brother Michel has passed this test with much patience and faithfulness.  I ask your prayers for him.

RADIO

We continue with the programs on Sungady and Monday.  Emilio and Rocio continue to come to Berea.  They came after hearing the radio for five weeks.  Additionally, we spoke on topics such as abortion, speaking to our children about sex, homosexuality among other topics.  I thank Pastor Roger Puma who has been going with me this month and helping with each program.

SCHOOL

After finishing their evaluations, the students are on vacation from July 22 and will finish them on August 9th.  I ask your prayer for the teachers and for economic provision for this vital part of the ministry.

I ask your prayers for:

-        The visiting group of brethern from the United States who will be here from August 4th until the 11th.  They will assist different churches with evangelsim, construction and medical attention.

-        Peruvian Missionary Gonzalo Human will visit Esmierna and Hunter.  He is working in Buenos Aires.

-        The beginning of classes both in the school and seminary on the 9th and 10th of August respectively.

-        “The Way of the Tribulation”, a project in the seminary that will project scenes from this event wit hthe participation of brethren from different churches on the weekends from August 27th until the 10th of September.

God Bless,

Miguel Murillo

Peru Bound…Again

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

I just got back from great missions trip to Peru last Tuesday, where I was able to lead 14 people from two churches.  We had a great time and I believe the Lord really worked in the lives of the people in our group.  In just a few days that group was able to pass out over 10,000 gospel tracts.  They weren’t able to speak the Gospel, but they were able to hand someone a piece of paper where it was clearly written!

Today I am heading out with my next group.  There are 11 of us, and with some of the problems we have had, I really believe the Lord wants to work through this group as well.  Please be praying.  We take off around 2pm today from Atlanta and will return home on August 13th.

Saying Goodbye is Hard

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

I am not the most sensitive guy in the world, which my wife can definitely vouch for, but tonight I was touched a bit.  Tonight I said goodbye to some of the best friends I have in this world.  Tonight was the last time I will see missionaries Mark and Natasha Tolson and their precious little girl, Ava Mei in person for a long time.

Although they do not leave for the mission field until next Tuesday, August 9th, I am leaving for Peru in the morning, so tonight was the “say your goodbyes” night.  It took place in the middle of the Kohl’s parking lot right after closing.  We went with them after we had dinner together to make a quick luggage purchase for the voyage to China.

Mark and Natasha have been great friends to Amy and I.  From the time they both started at our missionary training center until now, we have seen God at work in their lives.  I love the Tolson family as if they were my own family.

Please be praying for them as they travel to China.

Mark and Natasha, it has been a privilege to be a part of your lives.  “May the Lamb that was slain receive the FULL reward for His suffering.”

Miguel Murillo coming to the States

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Miguel Murillo is currently pastoring three churches in Peru and is training men to take over those works so he can go out and start more churches.  He is also the Director of the Peru Baptist College.

He is one of the most talented and hard working preachers I have ever met.  He is a major key to all that is going on in Peru.

He will be traveling with me between August 20 to September 20 here in the states.  If you would be interested in having him come and present his ministry in your church please let me know.  He has a vision to see churches started all over South America and to train men that will be sent all over the world.
